Minimise soiling

To reduce soiling, place mats at entrances to prevent excess dirt from entering the building Protect your carpets with mats at entrances and reduce cleaning costs. To create the most efficient cleaning zone, entrance mats should be at least 5 metres long. Vacuum clean once a day using a rotary brush nozzle. Make sure that mats are cleaned regularly to ensure that they continue to trap as much moisture and dirt as possible.

Vacuum cleaning is essential to any efficient, cost-effective maintenance programme. Daily vacuum-cleaning removes more than 80% of all dry soil and dirt. Vacuum-cleaning frequency should be adjusted to the quantities of dirt that can potentially accumulate in specific areas.

We recommend vacuum-cleaning at the following frequencies:

  • Heavy traffic areas: daily
  • Medium traffic areas: 2 times a week
  • Light traffic areas: 1-2 times a week

We recommend using a vacuum cleaner with a rotary brush nozzle. The mechanical effect of the rotary brushes is to loosen dirt and particles in the carpet.

Regular carpet cleaning

Your carpet should be cleaned regularly to remove accumulated dirt that is not removed by vacuum-cleaning and stain removal.

We recommend that carpets at intersections, entrances and in other heavy traffic areas are cleaned more often than others.

Hammer Carpets recommends the Chem-Dry®- carpet cleaning method. The Chem-Dry® method can be used on a regular basis. A potent, water-based, pH-neutral, carbonated solution is applied to the carpet.

The cleaning solution dissolves dirt, which is then absorbed and dried using clean cotton cloths.

Benefits:

  • Very efficient cleaning
  • Uses very little water
  • Carpet backing is not soaked
  • Uses no chemicals
  • Removes dirt from carpet fibres
  • Quick-drying (usually 1-2 hours)
  • Low risk of damaging the carpet
  • The Chem-Dry® method and solutions used have minimal impact on the indoor climate.
  • The carpet remains clean for longer as the method leaves no soap or chemical residues which attract dirt.

Stain removal:

Stains due to spillages can often be removed successfully if they are removed immediately. The spilt fluid should be mopped up using a clean, white cloth as soon as the spillage is discovered. Continue mopping up until all the spilt fluid is absorbed.

To remove stains, Hammer Carpets recommends that you use a professional cleaning system, e.g. Chem-Dry® stain remover. Follow the instructions supplied and take special precautions when using other cleaning solutions.

Light extraction cleaning can also be used if necessary. Mobile extraction cleaning devices can be used both to mop up spilt fluids and to rinse after cleaning. It is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you fail to do so, the guarantee will be voided.

NB!

The first time you use a new cleaning fluid or stain remover on a carpet, you should check that it does no harm to your carpet. Damage can be caused as a result of smudging, discolouring, bleaching or dissolution.

We recommend that you ALWAYS test cleaning fluids and stain removers on a small area first, e.g. in a corner, under a radiator or a similar place. Test the cleaning agent at the dose stated in the instructions and for the recommended contact time.

VERY IMPORTANT: Do NOT use horizontally rotating brushes or cloths on wool and other spun yarns as these can cause irreparable damage to yarns and the carpet's appearance. If you use this technique, Hammer Carpets' guarantees are voided.
